Borne area at Barcelona

For us Borne area is the coolest district of Barcelona. We especially like its bohemian and chic atmosphere. It is a small village in the city center. Fashionable but very authentic. It’s located to the west of Via Laietana and the east of Parc de la Cuitadella. Nuzzled between Plaza Urquinaona and the Marina. Very close to the beach.

Borne area has been the commercial hub of Barcelona since medieval times. And these days there are plenty of designer clothes and boutiques. Delicatessen food stores, fashionable bars and restaurants. All mixed with all comerce and elder associations clubs.

As you walk through the maze of whimsical streets you begin to breath old Barcelona. For example, a medieval trading route guides you from Plaza de l´Angel that used to be a grain market, to Argenteria street (“silverware”). Through Mercaders, the traders, up to Montcada street. Where you arrive to the Picasso Museum and some medieval merchant palaces. As you continue, you reach the animated Paseo del Born, a hub for the city’s trading for 400 years. Plenty of cafes, bars and terraces. And finally arrive to the magnificent church of Santa Maria del Mar.

While you’re in the area, don’t miss Sant Pere street and its surroundings. This it may be medieval in origin. But its finest monument is one of the most extraordinary works of Modernism, the Palau de la Musica. Specially we can recommend the Market of Santa Catarina. Due to its fresh food, bars, restaurants and good ambience.

We know plenty of apartments for rent in Barcelona and the Borne area. Which gives you the possibility to enjoy all the treasures of the old city of Barcelona. And to be close to history, and around 10 minutes walk from the beach.
